2012 02 15 Wednesday February 15 -- morning update

I spoke to Martha's daytime nurse, who says she is more alert. She is able to open her eyes and is able to grasp with her left side. Her right arm and hand still has edema (swelling) and of course she is still getting food and medicine through the dobhoff tube. Yesterday Dr. Krisht has brought in Dr. Patan (sp?) to help control the seizure activity. He increased the Kepra (anti-seizure drug) and ordered another EEG for today, and the day nurse said she showed no signs of additional seizures throughout the night. The nurse and I were agreeing that we saw the seizures days ago but didn't recognize them. In retrospect, Martha was probably having a seizure when Tasha was speaking to her on the phone, Tasha realized. Also she probably had a seizure after she greeted me and Martin on Sunday but was then suddenly unable to converse with her friend or eat effectively.

Fortunately that seems to be more under control, and they are slowly decreasing her sedation so she can be more alert and active again.

On the home front, Amanda is continuing to feel much better today; She feels almost ready to travel to see her mother, so we plan to do something mildly active today to test her stamina. I'm realizing, however that, if it is due to the Valentine roses and balloon, I had better budget for fresh ones as needed. ;-)
